Animate Projects and QUAD are pleased to announce an international call for Parts & Labour, the second Animate OPEN exhibition. We invite submissions of experimental single channel work that relate to the theme Parts & Labour: emphasising the craft – analogue and digital – of contemporary creative animation practice. The Animate OPEN will present work in a gallery, in cinemas and online.
The Animate OPEN is for complete works by UK and international artists, animators and filmmakers, produced since January 2014.
Works will be selected by: Abigail Addison and Gary Thomas (Animate Projects), Peter Bonnell and Michael Sargeant (QUAD), Adam Pugh (curator and writer, Artists‘ Moving Image Project Manager at the Independent Cinema Office), Maria Manton (producer and director, Munky).
A jury will award an Animate OPEN Prize of £1,500. The jury members are: Louise Clements (Artistic Director, QUAD), Ruth Jarman (artist, Semiconductor), Chris Robinson (Artistic Director, Ottawa International Animation Festival) and Gary Thomas (Animate Projects). An Audience Prize of £750 will be selected by visitors to the exhibition at QUAD.
We’ll be paying exhibition fees to the selected artists. The submission fee is £10 for one work, £15 for two. Animate Projects is a charity and all fee income contributes to the administration of the Animate OPEN.
The deadline is: 11:00 (British Summer Time), Thursday 3 September 2015
Animate OPEN: Parts & Labour is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, Jerwood Charitable Foundation, and the This Way Up Exhibition Innovation Fund, a partner of the BFI Film Audience Network.
