Die erste Veranstaltung der European Animation Awards fand am 8. Dezember 2017 in Lille, Frankreich statt. Über 1000 Menschen kamen aus ganz Europa zur feierlichen Vergabe der 16 europäischen Animationsfilmpreise EMILE im Le Nouveau Siècle.
Deutsche Werke waren leider nicht unter den Nominierungen, aber einige deutsche Regisseure und Animationsmenschen. Und für ihre Regiearbeit an REVOLTING RHYMES konnten Jan Lachauer, Jakob Schuh und Bin- Han To dann auch zwei Preise mit nach Hause nehmen.
Der Lifetime Achievement Award ging an Richard Williams, der bei der Veranstaltung mit Standing Ovations empfangen wurde.
